At WaterIcon we stock only the very best quality and most reliable brand of membranes in the water industry. Our range of different membranes are perfectly suited for various processes and applications. We make available various types of membranes, including:
- Reverse osmosis (RO);
- Micro filtration (MF);
- Nano filtration (NF); and
- Ultrafiltration (UF).
These all form part of a family of membrane separation technologies which are used in industrial and municipal applications. The applications perform a wide ranging and important purpose for both the industrial and environmental sectors, including:
- The production of portable water supplies;
- Reducing the costs involved for industrial clients through effective water recycling and reuse;
- Polishing and demineralisation of boiler feed water and pharmaceutical water;
- Ensuring clean water discharge for the environment; and
- The recycling process of wastewater and effluent water, to name a few.
Nano filtration membranes function very similarly to reverse osmosis. However, it is generally used to only remove divalent and larger ions from water. Monovalent ions like chloride and sodium will pass through the NF membrane, which means that many of its uses will involve de-salting of the process stream.
Depending on the requirements of our clients, we are able to guarantee that we will have the solution and backup service to match. Whether you are in need of brackish water treatment, sea water or municipal water, we will have the best suited membrane for your needs.
We stock a wide range of world leading brand name members, some of which include:
- Yarn home;
- Dow / filmtec; and
- Hydronautics, to name a few.
How NF Membranes can Aid Reverse Osmosis Systems
Reverse osmosis systems can be used to turn sea or brackish water into portable water. Osmosis is the process where water will flow from a diluted solution through a semi-permeable membrane to a far higher concentrate solution.
NF membranes will then allow for the tiniest of particles in the water to move from the one solution to the other. In the instance of sea water, the membrane will allow the water to pass through, but not the salt particles. In terms of reverse osmosis, a pressure which is greater than the osmotic pressure is applied to the unit with the higher concentration of salt. This will allow the process of osmosis to be effectively reversed which will lead to a process where the higher salt concentrate will move to the low pressure solution.
Using this method, the NF membrane will then be able to create pure water from sea water seeing that the membrane doesn’t allow the salt particles to pass through.
WaterIcon makes available an extensive range of reverse osmosis units and NF membranes which can be used in many different applications. We also manufacture the RO units in Johannesburg and can transport, install and maintain these units at our clients’ sites, should the need arise. Our clients also have the option of a fully customisable and portable reverse osmosis unit which can be tailored according to their size requirements.
Our technical assistance and expertise are available throughout the year to ensure that our clients have an uninterrupted supply of clean water with the bare minimum downtime for their plants. Our NF membranes and other systems can be sued to soften water, produce drinking water and for desalination.
Our partnership with excellent membrane companies like Toray and Dow, who is known for their expertise in manufacturing of water treatment membranes further add value to our products and services. If you are looking for a custom built water treatment solution with the very latest NF membrane technology, look no further than WaterIcon.
We have many years’ industry experience to fall back on and have garnered a loyal following of clients throughout the years.
