Job Title:  Project Engineer

 

Overview

This is a permanent position located at the company’s Head Office in Modderfontein, Ekurhuleni. Salary & Benefits are market related and will be discussed in detail with the successful applicant. 

The Project Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager  and will be responsible for the sale, design, cost, execution (project management and fabrication/assembly), installation and commissioning of the companies engineering projects. The purpose of this role is to provide an “end-to-end” engineering solution to the client/customer. Travelling locally and international may be required 

 

Requirements

Formal Education / Academic Qualifications:

Matric

Relevant Tertiary Qualification/s in Engineering

 

Experience:

2 to 5+ years of experience in water treatment design and commissioning, including operations. 

Exposure and experience with the respective water treatment technologies in the market (filters, reverse osmosis etc.) 

Previous experience in project management is a plus

Sales or proposals background is an advantage

Knowledge of the current water treatment space

 

Certifications/Licenses and Registration:  

A membership of an appropriate professional body will be advantageous

Valid driver’s licence

Position Description

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS  OUTPUTS MEASURES TIME SPEND IMPACT OF THE TASK

Sales / Proposals and Process Design 

Respond to customer/client requests for engineering solutions

Maintain relationships with new and existing customers 

Promote and develop new business within the company’s core focus

Meet deadline submissions for sales/tenders 

Follow-up on previously submitted quotations 

Obtain possible technical solutions for clients in conjunction with the engineering department

The marketing updates on pricing, promotion, market penetration

Improvement of existing business functions & systems and their profitability including but not limited to “pre-engineered” projects servicing and turnkey projects

Draft and submit quotes/pricing to customers on time and before deadline. Quotations can be in the form of emails, 1 pager or detailed proposals depending on size of project and requirements 

Secure after sales maintenance agreement and hand over to service and internal sales department

Provide correct engineering solutions to the problem 

Response time and deadlines on tenders (set internally or by client) 

Design correctness 

Costing accuracy 

50% Sales and proposals are directly linked with business financials and the growth of the business 
Design correctness and accuracy would lead to the success of the sale and ensure after-sales annuity income. If done incorrectly, the project would be a failure and lead to a financial loss to the company and reputation damages 
Project Management 

Managing, establishing and maintaining the costing and estimating systems of the company

Liaise with workshop manager regarding workload and scheduling

Ensure the project is executed in a timely manner and meets client expected lead times 

Testing of equipment prior to delivery/shipping 

Ensuring the quality and specification of the company’s products and equipment are established

and sufficient for market requirements

Use existing process workflow and provide input on improvements where possible

 

Project charter to be updated 

Project costing sheet be updated and reflect correct information 

Project close out notes 

Costing accuracy Project deliverables (equipment and documents)
Factory acceptance test document 
Time line and lead time for the project
40% Costing accuracy would directly impact the profitability of the project / company
Meeting the client’s timelines would impact the success of the project and possible future projects / sales
Installation, Commissioning and Training (where required)

Ensure that the project is correctly installed at the various sites 

Represent the company in the most professional manner and successfully commission the equipment on site 

Training of operators who will be operating the plant 

Provide necessary handover document (commissioning, handover certificates, training registers) 

Traveling locally and internationally may be required

Travel to and from site individually or with designated engineering team 

Successful installation and commissioning of plants / projects 

Sign off of handover certificates / training registers  10%  

Site work is essential for the completion of projects and directly impacts future sales (services and consumables) 

Continuous Improvements

Conduct ad hoc analytics required to improve design and costing accuracy 

Ensure up to date knowledge of existing and new water treatment / process technologies available in the market

Travel to and from site individually or with designated engineering team   Reviews with management  Own Time Continuous improvement will ensure that the company is at the forefront of new technologies and gain future projects
